Stop Special Treatment for Adani’s Reef-Wrecking Coal Project!
Adani has a new sneaky back door plan to get taxpayer money for its coal mine – and it is bad news for our beautiful Reef.
Adani representatives have met with federal Trade Minister Steven Ciobo and the government’s Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC) to try to secure funds for the mining giant’s suppliers.
We can stop them if we act fast. Turn the spotlight on Steven Ciobo – the man in charge of the EFIC funding agency.
The world is watching Minister Ciobo’s home electorate on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games. Now’s our chance to dial up the pressure and demand that he rule out using EFIC to fund Adani through its suppliers.
We’ve stopped the $1 billion NAIF loan to Adani and together we can stop EFIC funding this Reef-wrecking project.
Add your name to the thousands of Australians fighting for our Reef – no taxpayer money to prop up Adani!
Dear the Hon Steven Ciobo, Member for Moncrieff, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment
I’m contacting you as someone who is deeply concerned about the future of the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef, a beautiful place that brings in $6 billion each year in tourism and employs 64,000 people. The biggest threat to the future survival of the Reef is climate change, and Adani’s mega coal mine would only exacerbate this problem.
Like the vast majority of Australians, I strongly oppose any taxpayer money going to such a destructive project.
It has come to my attention that both you and your agency, the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC), have recently met with Adani representatives. Thirty-two financial institutions have ruled out funding Adani and it is time the Australian government followed their lead.
I therefore ask you to rule out using the EFIC to fund Adani and their suppliers.
The future of our Reef is in your hands. Please stand up for the 64,000 jobs dependent on a healthy Reef and rule out using EFIC to fund Adani.
