Queensland Labor has said NO to giving Adani’s $1 billion of our taxes to wreck our Reef. This is big news!
The Liberal National Party is lagging way behind however. They still want to loan $1 billion of our taxes to Adani’s Reef-wrecking mine. But itt’s not too late however. Together all parties can stop the loan this election.
Ask Mr Tim Nicholls, LNP’s leader, to stand up and fight for our Reef. Don’t give $1 billion of our taxes to Adani’s colossal coal mine >>
Dear Mr Nicholls,
I’m writing to you as a Queensland voter, who is deeply concerned about the future of the Great Barrier Reef. Climate change, driven mainly by mining and burning coal, threatens our Reef’s very existence. In 2016 and 2017, half of the shallow water corals bleached and died.
Adani’s giant Carmichael coal mine will accelerate global warming. This will increase ocean temperatures, causing more frequent and more severe coral bleaching, leading to more corals dying.
Adani companies have an appalling record of environmental destruction overseas and are under investigation for tax evasion, corruption, fraud and money laundering. I cannot trust this company with our Great Barrier Reef.
Currently Adani are relying on a $1 billion taxpayer loan to build a railway from its coal mine to the Abbot Point port next to our Reef. Although this is a Federal government loan, the Queensland government can say no to this money going to Adani.
The Queensland Premier has already announced that she will veto any NAIF loan to Adani.
However, while her government is in caretaker mode during this election campaign, the Premier requires your agreement to veto the loan.
I am asking you not to support the $1 billion of taxpayer money going to this dangerous and polluting project, which will threaten the future of our Reef. Please join the Premier in vetoing the loan and put the Reef, and the 64,000 jobs that rely on it, first this election.
A Champion of the Great Barrier Reef
